I love finding good deals, but my favourite type of good deal is a dupe- two products that are very similar but extremely different in price. Since I'm going to Europe I'm "trying" to cut down my spending. I've been doing well, and it's thanks in part to finding little product dupes. If I could afford to spend money on high-end products I most certainly would, but most people can't (and I'm one of them). By finding these dupes it still allows me to use great products at a fraction of the cost, which helps me save money for my big trip!
My first dupe is the Beauty Blender- a sponge used to apply foundation to your face. The Beauty Blender is used by makeup artists all over the world and is recommended to anyone who wants to appear as though they're wearing no foundation. This product is $26.00 at Sephora, which is a little steep for me. I found Quo's Blending Sponge at Shoppers Drug Mart for $6.99. I bought it, took it home and tried it right away. I applied foundaton to my face by dabbing it on my cheeks, chin and forehead then followed the instructions to blend everything. It gives your face a flawless glow and the edges allow you to get into the hard to reach places on your face (like the creases of your nose and eyes). I use this sponge everyday, but it does need to be cleaned about once a week. This was a great buy! My second dupe is Moroccan Oil, which is an oil-based hair treatement. This is such a great product and you notice a difference in your hair immediately. I only had a small sample of this oil, but I can truly say it's an amazing creation. The only downfall is the price which comes in at $43.00. I researched and found got2b's Oil-licious line, so naturally I went out and bought the shampoo and styling oil. Both products cost me under $15.00! This styling oil is great- my hair is shiny, soft and has no frizz! One thing oil assists with is the length of time it takes to dry your hair. When I use styling oil I find it cuts down the length of time it takes to blow dry my long locks. Definitely try got2b Oil-licious Styling Oil- not only will you have amazing results but it won't hurt your bank account. You can't go wrong with this product. These are my two most recent beauty dupes. I'm always on the hunt and always open to suggestions, so comment and let me know if you have any dupes of your own! Cheers, Bhreagh Save: Rebecca Minkoff Becky Silk Jacket, Saks Fifth Avenue / Splurge: BB Dakota Carrie Crepe Blazer, ShopBop / Steal: Dynamite Draped Blazer, Dynamite / Rebecca Minkoff is one of my favourite designers but is extremely out of my price range. When I saw the Becky Silk Jacket on Julia of Gal Meets Glam, see here, I loved it and have been searching for a similar less expensive version. I'll save the idea of owning anything Rebecca Minkoff until I can afford it. I found the BB Dakota Carrie Crepe blazer, which is very similar but has some minor alterations. This blazer is shorter, but not quite a crop, doesn't have the detail on the front and isn't the same blue but it's close enough for me! I would absolutely splurge on this blazer. The steal I found is from Dynamite, and even though the colour is much softer it is very similar to the two other blazers. It's not silk, but it's a very light weight fabric that moves easily and is wildly comfortable (I have two other Dynamite blazers, one is worn here). Not to mention the prices of all three are totally different- $400.00, $98.00 and $22.00 (on sale) respectively for save, splurge and steal.
I love "window shopping" for designer duds but I know I can't afford them at this point of my life. My goal is to find clothing that will last, is good quality and has similarities to desinger/high end brands. Cheers, Bhreagh My best friend and I are going to Europe in 2014 and I'm currently budgeting. Being on a budget sucks, especially when you love expensive makeup! So, to assist in my budgeting I've decided to no longer buy expensive products but dupe them with similar, less expensive but just as nice products. #1 Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise & Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise, Wal Mart / Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, Sephora / Stila is my all-time favourite makeup but the price is of their products are rather high. I do believe when you pay more for a product you're paying for a higher quality product, and Stila most certainly is a high quality product. Unfortunately when budgeting you need to cut out expensive products and try to replace with less expensive items. I found Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise and fell in love. Its 1/3 of the price, lasts all day and goes on very smooth. This is the perfect way to save a little bit of money. #2 Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain & Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint Tarte products are amazing! They're made from natural ingredients and don't cause any strange damage to your skin. I adore their lip tint for numerous reasons- it comes in beautiful colours, smells amazing, stays on all day and moisturizes your lips. When budgeting this lip stain is out of the question, but Revlon has a lip balm stain that is so similar and is 1/4 of the price! Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain is my favourite lip product at the moment. It's under $10.00 (I bought mine on sale for $5.99), it smells like mint, stays on all day and moisturizes! Needless to say I will not be buying Tartes lip stain anymore because I have moved on to Revlon! #3 Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleaning System & Clarisonic Mia Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleaning System, Wal Mart / Olay Pro-X Replacement Brush Heads, Wal Mart / Clarisonic Mia, Sephora / Clarisonic Replacement Head, Sephora / This price range will blow your mind! I've been using the Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleaning System for four months and I love it. My plan was to purchase the Pro-X, save my money and eventually buy the Clarisonic Mia but since I'm budgeting the Mia is not an option. The Pro-X is usually $29.99, but goes on sale quite often, and the replacement heads cost $9.97 and comes in a pack of two. The Clairsonic Mia is, approximately, $150.00 and the replacement head is $30.00, and you only get one. Sure, the Clarisonic is well known as an amazing product that diminishes pores and exfoliates but using the Pro-X is still amazing. I've noticed my pores shrinking, my skin is softer and it's less oily. Even if you're not budgeting I'd recommend trying the Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleaning System!
Whether your budgeting or not in the mood to spend a lot of money, these beauty dupes are great purchases and will surely satisfy your need for new makeup or products! Hope you enjoyed! Cheers, Bhreagh |
